HARMONIC DISTORTION The presence of harmonics in the output signal of a device, which were not present in the input signal.
HARMONICS The name for all the simple sine waves that make up a complex tone. The first harmonic is called the Fundamental and has the same frequency as the tone in question; the second harmonic has a frequency twice the fundamentals and so forth. Also called Partials.
